Recording and mixing authentic gipsy music

My latest work was to record “Királyvári Meli és a Fiúk” playing gipsy folk and cover songs.
We recorded cajón, acoustic guitar and vocals simultaneously in one room at Echo Recording, Budapest. I used dynamic mics on each instrument and vocal, plus an AB stereo pair to capture the space. I received additional double bass and electric piano tracks later. Mixing was minimalist, involving volume adjustment, minor EQ’ing and a little plate reverb to widen the space’s natural reverberation. Enjoy.
